First time that I ever bought one of these...pretty nice. I'm having trouble on my home computer connecting it to my front USB port. When I plug it in the device lights up but it never connects. If I insert it in the rear op my CPU is lights up and is instantly accepted. To test the USB port in the front of my computer I connected by Blackberry and it worked like a charm. My home computer is the only device that I'm having trouble with. I have tested the storage device on several computers and have never had a problem with it connecting.

Any suggestions?

My home computer is a 5 year old Sony Vaio, Pentium III, 512, 40.

In the office that I work in, we have 50+ computers.....My Usb works fine in the rear port on all of the computers, no matter make or model.....But it is 50/50 on the front port no matter make or model.....

Is there a reason for this? I thought that the input is the same no matter where it is on the computer.

I have been told it is for a couple of different reasons....the USB front port is USB 1.0 and the USB keys use USB 2.0 version or the front port is not connected to the mother board....Not sure if this is the case....Just what I have been told...

I agree with what HoW says. Definitely a good chance for conflict between USB 1.0 and 2.0 with a laptop that old.

I don't think it's about conflict at all. They're supposed to be backward compatible. THe transfer rate may effect.

Let me ask you a question.... is this computer custom built or brand name pc that you buy from a store???

If it's custom built, it's possible that whomever set it up didnt connect it to the motherboard to make it work. So you have to connect it and it should work like a charm.

If it's brand name PC, then the same thing apply if it;s not connected but it may be something else too.......

I hope this helps!!!
